Alarm Clocks

On our drive home, down a winding path through the woods, I found myself near tears. Why cant they just have a simple alarm clock, honey? I asked my husband. I just want to be able to go to a store and find what I need. I don’t know if I can do this again. Feeling overwhelmed and exhausted the tears started to flow.

We were home for about an hour when I looked out the window. The sun was beaming and was calling my name. The boys were watching a movie so I thought I would go check out the little path near our house and see where it leads.

So I walked from my driveway and right across the street is this path to somewhere…I started to walk down the path, camera in hand like an old friend. The sun was blazing through the trees and leaves onto the pathway. I felt warm and excited to see what was around the next bend. Then came an opening with a lake lined with benches and protected with trees taller than mountains. I gasped. All this beauty, right here, right outside my door. I continued to walk feeling more and more peace by the moment.

wooded walk journal :

I crouched down to get a picture of an apple that had fallen onto the path when I heard someone clear their throat. I looked up to see a man and woman smiling at me. Oh hello I said, isnt it beautiful today? The man answered oh yes and then the conversation went something like this…

We are just here reminiscing. My son passed away and so we came over to bury him this week.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

Yeah, we used to live here in Reichenbach and have so many good memories of this pathway. We walked it at least a thousand times.

My family and I just moved here and this is my first time down this path and I think I am in love too.

Yeah we used to live right up on this street up here for about 11 years.

Oh, I just moved onto the street right up there.

No kidding, what house number?

Number 2.

You cant be serious, we lived in number 2 also. We loved that house. We had so many amazing memories there. You are going to love it there, especially at Christmas….

We compared notes about the house, life in the village I live in for about 20 minutes. They shared stories, Dad and Daughter, and told of the good places to eat and play in the village. Like old friends, leading the way, and letting me know that everything was going to be ok.

As I walked away, and they went down their path and I down mine, I heard the Dad say to his Daughter… that was AMAZING. I smiled from ear to ear. If only he knew how amazing it was to me too.

side by side :

Life is not about alarm clocks after all. It is about connections when you need them the most.

Missing you,

SN
