first day of sixth grade

first day septe6 :

While Jonathen was away at his first day I kept trying to think of something special to bake him for when he got home. Finally, I came up with a doozie. I took his love of brownies and mixed it with his love of cookies and cream and made cookies and cream brownies.

They were busy baking when his school bus pulled up. He walked off the bus and had a smile on his face. We talked briefly about his favorite part of the day when he asked, did you bake me something yummy for my first day?

To some that might seem pretty pretentious of him to ask such a question. But for me, it made me beam. Knowing that there would be a treat waiting for him when he got home meant I must be doing it right. He knows I am at home thinking of him and making him something tasty when he is away.

It only got better for me. My Jonathen likes to keep to himself a little but today he came home and shared it all with me. We sat on the porch and talked all about his day. His favorite part, and according to him the only favorite part of his first day, was his teacher. He said she calls him sweet cheeks (and all the other boys and girls). I immediately offered to call all of his friends sweet cheeks, but was warned his friends would never talk to me or maybe him again!

I think sixth grade is off to a promising start, but maybe we should ask Mr. Sweet Cheeks.
