nesting

nesting june 9 :

He woke up, caught eye of the blocks and nestled right down to play. He pulled them out one by one and tried to figure out how they went back together. He put them in little piles, then tried to fit those piles into each other. Only he would pick the biggest block and try to put it in the smallest space. So many times I wanted to jump in and fix it for him.

What happend next shocked me. He sat there for over an hour, stacking, restacking, and did not give up or even show signs of frustration. Just complete concentration. Then when he was ready to be done. He stacked them the best he could, stood up, and smiled and clapped.

Then he found his buckets, they stack and nest in the same way. He picked them up, sat down, and worked and worked on figuring it out, again for at least a half an hour.

After nap, in which he did not sleep, he asked to go down the stairs, where he walked straight over to the blocks, sat down and went at it again. Almost as if he couldn’t sleep until he figured it out.

His ability to keep at something at just two years old is nothing short of amazing in my heart. I am excited to see where that determination takes him in life.
